Do you feel that something in Education, research or employment has to be changed?
Do you that you need tools and methods that help fostering this change?
Do you feel like innovating but you don´t know how to do it or which resources to use?
Do you need conexions to promote your ideas?
Learning along life (LAL) with basis in competences, and for all agents, has become a major goal for OCDE countries and others. LAL is considered an essential condition to achieve individual success both at professional level and social well-being, and also, as basis for democracy and citizenship.
In this line, the Agora is transgressor in the sense that it intends to go beyond the established rules,beyond “doing always the same to get the same results”, inviting people to leave their comfort zone with proposals and techniques that led to revolution rather than to innovation, by means of solutions and training, which facilitates and improves the lives of people by enhancing the LAL.
In this way…
…if you simply need to know, to learn about the competence-based approach, the Agora will help you;
…if you need to show how you work on competences, the Agora will provide a forus to facilitate that;
…if you have novel ideas/theories that can contribute to improve the teaching-learning and research processes, the Agora will provide n scenario;
…if you need to teach people following a competence-based approach, the Agora will help you find the conexions for it.
Why facing at the same time the formation of people from the cradle to the grave?
Because a holistic planification of the person formation is needed; that is, for example, the University agents should take into account how the competence-based approach has been implemented in previous educational stages, and, at the same time, the University agents should know what is expected from the graduate students in their professional lives.
Similarly, the organizations and companies should specify their needs in terms of the competences the possible candidates should have, in order to let the educational institutions know about them.
Is this really being demanded from the educational levels?
For example, is this really important in the pre-universitary levels?
Taking Spain as reference, for example, in the Regulation ECD/65/2015, from 21 January, for different educational scopes we can read that “… a methodological approach based on the key competences and on the results of the teaching-learning process involves important changes in the conception of the process itself, changes on the organization, and in the scholar culture; it requires the narrow collaboration between the teachers in the development of the curricula, and in the transmission of knowledge, as well as changes on the work practices and teaching methods”, and that “…an adequate coordination between the teachers on the methodological and teaching strategies is essential. The education teams must consider a common and shared reflection on the efficacy of the different methodological approaches with common and agreed criteria …”.
And at universitary level?
Besides, in the RD 1393/2007 which stablishes the ordenation of official university degrees in Spain, states that “…the teaching agendas of the universitary degrees must, in consequence, have as major goal, the acquisition of COMPETENCES by the students, widening, without excluding, the traditional approach based on contents and teaching hours. Emphasis has to be made on the learning methods associated to these competences, as well as on the procedures used to evaluate its acquisition (…). The new organization of the teaching processes will increase the employability of the employees (…)”.
However, it seems that the needed adaptation of the university has not taken place yet, and new teaching-learning strategies are required, as it can be read in the “employability barometer of graduates in Spain” presented by the OEEU, made from data from more than 13000 graduates from 46 universities, in which not only the contents but also the competences draw the way.
Is my participation really important?
Can a drop be enough to fill a glass?
Based on the premises described above, the promotion of an event like Agora seems indispensable. In this event, the state of art on competence-based ways of teaching-learning will be firstly analyzed, (to know); secondly, to show the most important advances on experiences (to know how to do) carried out in each of the model items: objetives, estrategies, tools, techniques, evaluation, etc.; in order to, finally, discuss about collaborative actions and joint projects searching particular goals in the frame of the competence-based model, maximizing benefits and minimizing costs (to know how to be) that make possible joint projects during the 361 days following each Agora.
For all this we want you to come with us through the vision, that involves integrating the pre–universitary educational levels, the university and the further socio–professional environment. We want you to join us in this space through a logical coordination, facilitating the competence-based approach in a worldwide learning context based on competences. We want you to participate and enrich you not only during the event central days, but also with your inclusion in joint projects to be developed on the following months/years.
