Is it an Education Conference? A Research one?
An entrepeneur forus? A multimeeting for employment?
The Agora is a space for international meeting and conexion that integrates three educational/formative ambits: those previous to the University, the University, and the socio-professional environment of the graduates. The Agora is, therefore, an event where these three dimensions, from which a logical coordination is expected, can be integrated. In this way, the skill-based performance will be facilitated in a learning worldwide context based in:

Hence, the Agora represents a new concept as it is shown in the section “Know more…”: an open meeting space, a conexion space “from the cave to the grave” to foster and facilitate the skill-based performance in a worldwide context, with need of learning based in competences. This will be achieved by conceiving the Agora as the summation of two basic spaces: ForAgora (forus+multimeeting) and CongressAgora (Conference), that will allow, based on the Learning Along Life (LAL) approach, to improve the employability of people and their social wellbeing.
But Agora is not only a Conference, or a Multimeeting event, or an entrepeneur forus,… it is more than all that; because of its different structure and configuration, the disadvantages of this type of events are mitigated in Agora, and the advantages are enhanced, embracing three dimensions: education, research and employment.
The former figure shows how three different sections have been considered in the Agora.
The first one, “to know”, is directly related to the formative aspect of three types of actions: the proper traditional conception of a conference where communications are exposed by the attendants; it is materialized in specific conferences on the thematic topics of the Agora; and symposiums, general or specific monographics which will be defined as basis of particular topics of special interest, framed in the competence-based approach, and driven by experts, in sessions of 4-5 communications.
The second one, “to know how to do”, is based on a more experimental approach, and collects the experiences that, in the frame of “to know how to do“, are presented in the Agora. This part will also cover different practical workshops which will be held during the event, in which specific competences will be treated (transversal competences, strategies and practical methodological techniques).
In this sense, the third section has to do with the ambit “to know how to be”, and provides an added value in relation to this type of events which are more “focused on expositions”. In Agora, many activities intended to favor the practical implication of the attendants have been scheduled, such as networking, short activities like “elevator pitch”, other larger initiatives on “collaborative work” like coworking. Between both modalities, other variations such as fast dates will conform a multimeeting space from which many joint works or Project might arise, integrating the three dimensions of Agora: educational levels previous to the University, University and socio-professional environment, and their projection on education and research and employability improvement.
Yes, it is an International space, result of the addition of a Conference (CongressAgora) and a Multimeeting forus (ForAgora); in this event, the state or art will be previously described, and then the problems and solutions related to the competence-based approach that has been internationally adopted both in the education and profesional ambits, will be tacked. The focus will be especifically orientated to the axis Europe-Latin America.
It will offer, as differential aspect in relation to other events on these topics, the inclusion of stages that are previous to the University, the University, and the postgraduate ones. This will be done by means of models of competence management which are currently being implemented by a large number of organizations, both at the Education and Research levels, in their projection and relation towards Employment (dimensions).
But this has to be done, integrally, through all the social system, that is to say, joining in a specific scenery, to agents and other interested parts that carry out their job on pre–universitary, universitary and post–univesitary levels: companies seeking for a better competence-based performance of their employees, recruiting staff companies, organisms devoted to the accreditation of competences, etc.
It has been conceived as Agora because we think that the approach of a conference is not enough, since one of the deficiencies of these events if that insufficient attention is paid to the networking that might be created .
In this way, it can be said that, although the Agora aims to go beyond that, it can be seen as the joint of a Conference and a multimeeting, with different ways of interaction and colaborative space to favor the continuation of the projects initiated in the Agora, during the remaining 361 days of the year, for which a collaborative neural net based on nodes, allowing the launch and fostering of joint projects, has been designed.
The Agora does not aim to replace any other event; it will create a new one, where all the existing ones can converge. WIN-WIN spaces will be created, where all the interested parts win: those who simply look for knowledge to improve their professional performance, and those who look for a place to show their ideas and activities, to gather potential partners to start collaborative projects.
In parallel, the Agora will show the latest advances regarding the technology needed to pursuit our objectives.
The Agora porsuits the ACHIEVEMENT of the following commandement of goals:
Show the interest that the competence-based approach has nowadays arisen, in general for people/organizations, as well as for the different agents involved in the educational system of countries, allowing to carry out/update a basic formation on it.
Make a revision on the current state of the competence based approach, specially regarding the education systems as transmision and fostering agent, and regarding the demands of the professional environment. This review will allow a fast updating on this field by the Agora attendants, which will be widened further on, not only during the face-to-face event, but also after it.
Pick up information from the interested agents (stakeholders) to make significant proposals that will be taken to organizations with decision potential in the educational and political ambits, in an international and multidisciplinary space for meeting and conexion.
Anticipate to what might happen in this field in next years, based on Europe 2020 strategies, and on the evolution of the competence based management models in organizations, the interest on the professional accreditation on competences in organizations, etc., in different parts of the world.
To show successful experiences in the three dimensions, in terms of the identification of competences, their evaluation, learning methodologies, techniques of skill development, innovation on education, research and development, formation for the employment, available and future technologies, etc.
Stablish links within the three ambits: pre-universitary, universitary and graduates, since the three of them are basic to improve the results of the competence-based models and the employability of the graduates.
- Promote and give support and tracking to the possible collaborative projects that can be carried out from the end of the face-to-face Agora, during the remaining 361 days, until the second Agora edition. These projects will be interdisciplinary and among agents of the three ambits described in the previous section, who aim to foster the projection to employment (and other challenges), due to the Agora node net to be created .
- Create an additional collaborative working link with Latin America, by the celebration of future Agora in one of their countries, which would favor the continuity of the work made.
Write a guide of competences in which, using a basis with commonly used skills, each competence is related to different contexts and thus allows a further simplification of language and procedures.
Write and spread a “paper position” summary of lessons learnt on the Agora. This document will be a draft in which Agora attendants will have the possibility of working up to the second edition of Agora.
